Vannice, 80, of Plains, died Dec. 7, 1997 at Clark Fork Valley Hospital of a heart attack. Memorial services will be Thursday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Plains Alliance Church. Rev. Jeff Kingery will officiate. He was born April 15, 1917 near Colfax, Was., the son of Albert and Frances Rose Vannice. Delbert lived in the Colfax area and farmed there. In 1940, he married Maude Banks and they made their home at Albion, Wash., for six years. Upon his parents’ retirement, he and his family moved to the family ranch near the Onecho area and continued to farm it until 1960. It was then he moved to Plains, following the death of his wife. At Plains, he bought the Frank Helterline farm west of Plains. In 1961, he married Ruth Keith of Missoula. Delbert owned and operated the Plains-Paradise Bus for four years. In 1967, he sold the farm and moved into Plains where he served as Sanders County Weed Superintendent for six years. He also served as Mineral County Weed Superintendent from 1978 to 1982. His wife Ruth died in 1970. In 1973, Delbert married Martha Jacobsen. She survives him at the family home in Plains. He is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Carl Ray of Spokane, Wash.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Loni Vannice of Grass Grange, MT. and Wayne and Clara Fay Vannice of Plains; two step-daughters and their husbands, Carolee and Chuck Prosser of Hot Springs; and Holly and Ron Peterson of Chewelah, Wash.; one stepson, Robert Coker of Olympia, Wash.; two brothers, Leslie Vannice of Union Gap, Wash.; and Darrel Vannice of Palm Desert, Calif.; one sister, Rose Larson of Sprague, Wash.; 11 grandchildrfen and six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first and second wives, and his half brother, Ellsworth Love in 1986. Coffelt-Bunch Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements. Parents are Albert Ray Vannice, Oct 1, 1885, Des Moines Co., IA - Nov 7, 1967, Yakima, Yakima, WA and Francis "Fannie" May Rose, 1886 WA - Aug 13, 1952, Seattle, King, WA. Paternal grandparents are Thomas C Vannice and Alice R.
