Description	:	Mrs. Delia Cipperley, one of the old residents of Ida County, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1937, at the home of her son. S. A. Cipperley, in Douglas Township, in her 98th year. She had been ill a little over a week, and on account of her great age, she failed to rally. Mrs. Cipperley was an active and well informed woman up until the close of her life. Read More	Mrs. Delia Cipperley, one of the old residents of Ida County, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1937, at the home of her son. S. A. Cipperley, in Douglas Township, in her 98th year. She had been ill a little over a week, and on account of her great age, she failed to rally. Mrs. Cipperley was an active and well informed woman up until the close of her life. At the general election on Nov. 3, 1936, some kind of a record was made when Mrs. Cipperley, her son, S. A. Cipperley, her granddaughter, Mrs. Edith Buck, and great granddaughter, Mrs. Alice Hind, – 4 generations in all – went in a party to the Douglas Township voting booth and cast their ballots. Delia Aldrich Cipperley was born at Woodstock, Vermont, Jan. 5, 1840, and passed away at the home of her son, S A. Cipperley on Oct. 17, 1937, age 97 years, 9 months & 13 days. She was united in marriage with Stephen M. Cipperley on Jan. 30, 1862. To them were born 4 children, two sons and two daughters, all of whom are living and were with her at her last illness. They are S. A. Cipperley of Washta, G. H. Cipperley of Olds Canada, Harriet M. Barber of St. John, Washington, and Clara P. Kerns of Quimby, Iowa. She went with her parents when 8 years old to Mendota, Illinois, traveling by the way of the Erie Canal and Great Lakes, then by horses and wagon. Towing 3 weeks on the canal was a long and tedious journey. She lived in Mendota until 1894 when she came to Iowa where she has since lived. She was a quiet devoted wife and mother and united with the First Baptist church at Mendota, IL, in January 1867. She leaves besides her sons and daughters, 27 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren who will cherish the memories of her quiet, loving, useful life. At Mrs. Cipperley's funeral, 6 of her grandsons were the pallbearers: George, Paul, Elmer, Roy, and Glen Cipperley and Ellery Kerns. Rev. John V. Madison of Ida Grove officiated at the services, which were held at the home at 2 p.m. and at Washta M.E church at 2:30. Rev. Glen Squires of Washta assisted at the services. All four of Mrs. Cipperley's children were present at the funeral, burial was made at Washta.
