A celebration of her life will be held January 27th, what would have been her 99th birthday, 10:30 AM at Vangen Lutheran Church, Mission Hill with Reverend Lance Lindgren officiating. Internment will be at Vangen Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service and a luncheon after the service. Delma was born January 27, 1915 in Volin, SD to Thomas and Anna (Lien) Thompson. She was the youngest of nine children. Delma grew up on the family farm, attended Oak Dale grade school and graduated from Volin High School in 1933. On January 27, 1936 she married Floyd T. Hanson at the parsonage of Vangen Lutheran Church. They bought a farm in the Mission Hill area where she lived until entering a care facility at age 92. She grew up a member of Zion Lutheran, Volin and then became a member of Vangen Lutheran Church. At Vangen she was a member of Vangen Ladies Aid and the Vangen Quilters. She enjoyed reading, making beaded ornaments, playing cards with friends, and driving her lady friends to town for errands which often included coffee and pie as one of the errands. She was proud to say she was of Norwegian ancestry and would make many of the traditional foods; lefse, shingle bread, rosettes, krumkake, spritz, etc. at Christmas. Survivors include her three sons: Roger (Sharon) Hanson of Sioux Falls, LaRue (Dorothy) Hanson of Colorado Springs, and Milan Hanson of Kansas City; five grandchildren: Brian (Luann) Hanson and Brad Hanson of Sioux Falls, Renae (Jay) Hollenbeck and Leanne Hanson of Colorado Springs, and Jeff (Sheila) Hanson of Spokane; two step grandchildren, Stacy (Dale) Hotchkin of Sioux Falls and Stef Bones of Watertown; ten great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her grandparents Casper and Martha Thompson and Lars and Oline Lien, father Thomas on February 21, 1918, mother Anna on December 26, 1948, husband Floyd on July 22, 1979,and brothers Clarence, Oliver, Elmer, Merlin, and Ernest Thompson and sisters Alice Vognild, Lillie Thompson, and Lillian Silva. Memorials may be made to Vangen Lutheran Church, 300 W 3rd St. Mission Hill, SD 57046 or a charity of your choice.
