Delmar Dwight Hansen was born on Dec. 10, 1919, to Abraham and Verna (Wilson) Hansen on the family farm near Mansfield. Delmar married Gladys Dayton on Sept. 16, 1950, at St. John Lutheran Church in Warner. From their union, they were blessed with 10 children. Delmar farmed for many years until his retirement. Delmar enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing baseball, playing cards, and bowling. He also enjoyed dancing, but most of all, he cherished the quality time spent entertaining his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Moose for 56 years and he ushered for more than 10 years at St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia, where he was a member for 59 years. Delmar was a volunteer at Avera St. Luke's Hospital for five years. Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 56 years, Gladys; four sons: Kevin and Mona of Goldconda, Nev., Clyde and Rhonda of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kerry of Columbia, S.D., and Kirk and Nila of Mitchell, S.D.; three daughters: Kim and Rob Peterson of Aberdeen, S.D., Carla Hansen of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kaelyn Hansen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, JoElain Tolvstad of Mellette, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Delmar was preceded in death by two sons: Kelly and Kent Hansen; one daughter, Kristi Hansen; and two sisters: Mildred Schauman and Leora Angerhofer. Published in the Aberdeen News on 7/31/2007.
