Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Des Moines, IA. David Phipps, a nephew, will officiate and interment will be in Sopher/Phipps Cemetery in Avon, IA. David Phipps, a nephew, will officiate and interment will be in Sopher/Phipps Cemetery in Avon, IA. Delmar was born November 3, 1928, the son of Lee and Lillian (Sopher) Phipps in Lanesboro, IA. He was a graduate of East High in Des Moines. He worked at Bridgestone/Firestone until his retirement in 1979. Delmar was proud of his profession as a tire builder—he built tires for airplanes. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union and a Mason. On May 18, 1981, he was united in marriage to Shannon Savick in Des Moines, IA. Delmar loved painting, gardening, and fishing. Delmar is survived by his wife Shannon Savick of Wells, and their son Francis Martin (Emily) Phipps of Des Moines, IA; 4 children from a previous marriage: Steve (Judy) Phipps of Florida, Linda Hebert of Texas, Nancy (Frank) Maher of Des Moines, IA, Tom (Linda) Phipps of Des Moines, IA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Lillian Phipps; 4 brothers: Wayne (killed during Battle of the Bulge in WWII), Dean (his wife Jean), Richard (his wife Janet), Sherman (his wife Dorothy); 2 sisters who died at birth; son-in-law Pat Herbert
