Mr. Auer represented Huntington and Whitley counties as 16th District state representative from 1974 to 1980, serving on the Ways and Means, Natural Resources and Public Safety committees. Read More	Delmar L. "Del" Auer, 80, of rural Columbia City, IN, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at 1:37 p.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital. Mr. Auer represented Huntington and Whitley counties as 16th District state representative from 1974 to 1980, serving on the Ways and Means, Natural Resources and Public Safety committees. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1948 and earned an associate's degree from International Business College, Fort Wayne. During his working years, he was manager of the Sears catalog store, owner and manager of Auer Oil company, founded and operated Auer & Davison Realtors, served as field auditor with the Indiana Department of Revenue and was manager of the Indiana Department of Transportation's Warsaw subdistrict. He was a past president of the Whitley County Council and was a past Whitley County Democrat chairman. He was a member of the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene. He was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Whitley County to John and Frances Flaugher Auer. He married Marilyn Hoover on June 24, 1966. His wife survives. Additional survivors include three daughters, Lindy (James) Moule, of New Hampshire, and Cindy (Paul) Doolittle and Sheila (Donald) Jetmore, both of Columbia City; a son, Richard Porter, of Columbia City; two brothers, Thomas (Cathy) Auer, of Columbia City, and Jerry (Cindy) Auer, of Larwill; four grandchildren, Ryan (Cara) Hively, of Indianapolis; Brant Hively, of Scottsdale, AZ; Stacie (Jeffery) Farber, of Columbia City; and Katie (William) Banford, of Illinois; five stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Calling is Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City. A service will be held on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery. Preferred memorials are gifts to Parkview Whitley Home Health and Hospice.
