Delmer Dale Hansen, 78 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Wilcox), passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society – St. John’s Center in Kearney. He was born September 17, 1939 in Woodbury County, Iowa the eldest of four children born to Elmer Benn and Pearl Eva (Whitesell) Hansen. He attended Sargent Public Schools. Following his education, he was employed as a carpenter and a truck driver. On May 7, 1963, Delmer was inducted into the United States Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He received the Driver Badge and was honorably discharged from active duty. He was transferred and continued to serve in the reserve capacity until 1969. On November 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Linda Rae Patterson at the Long Island Methodist Church in Long Island, Kansas and together they raised four children: Anthony James, Randy Dale, Debra Kay and Danny Joe. Their family lived in several places including, Phillipsburg, Kansas, Kirwin, Kansas, and Cawker City, Kansas, where Delmer was employed as a carpenter. In 1968, the family moved to Holdrege and later made their home in Funk, Nebraska. In 1971, the couple moved to Wilcox, where Delmer worked at the CO-OP and Elevator. Delmer enjoyed College Football, especially Husker Football and collecting Chevy and Dr. Pepper memorabilia. He especially enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids sporting activities. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Darrell Hansen and his wife, Jean; and a sister, Lois McBee and her husband, Ward. He leaves to celebrate his life: three sons: Tony Hansen and his wife, Shelly of Lexington, Nebraska, and their children, Michael and Amanda; Randy Hansen of Holdrege, and his children, Karissa and Terrance; and Danny Hansen of Kearney, and his children, Darcy and Lucas; his daughter, Debra Crookshank and her husband, Dan of Kearney, and their children, Tyler, Brett and Melissa; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Doug Hansen of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Book Signing was held on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established in Delmer’s honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
