Davis was born at Gallipolis, O., October 14, 1862, and passed away at Geneva, Neb., March 21, 1935, aged 72 years, 5 months and 7 days. Mr. Davis was married to Lillie J. Emmons at West Point, Ill., August 24, 1884. They left in October for the west in a covered wagon, finding themselves in due time on the farm near Milligan, Neb., where they lived until moving to the farm near Geneva, in 1908, moving to Geneva in 1918, where they since resided. Surviving Mr. Davis are his wife, his companion of a little more than fifty years, they having celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last August; the children, Charles of Geneva, Roy of Cheyenne, Wyo., Len of Hastings, Joe of Rochester, N.Y., Mrs. Mamie Miles of Sidney, Neb., and Emma of Iowa City; two brothers, John and Harry of Geneva; four sisters, Mary of Geneva and Hester, Nan and Gertrude in Oregon, and many other relatives and friends. Much could be written of the interesting life and the worthwhile contributions they have made to their generation through the half century this worthy couple have lived and wrought together. How interesting would be the recital of the details of that trip from Ohio to Nebraska in the covered wagon, of the joys and sorrows incident to the development of the new home amidst pioneer conditions, the rearing of their large family and the satisfactions experienced later in life in seeing their children established in their own various homes and communities. Mr. Davis belonged to that major class of American citizens which lives its serviceable life for the most part in obscurity, but which after all furnishes the basis for the security and permanency of our nation. His long residence in Fillmore county and near and at Geneva extended his acquaintanceship much above the average and his large circle of friends will miss his genial companionship. His industry and straight-forward manner of life will remain an inspiring memory to the members of his family and these many friends. He was converted and united with the Geneva Methodist church in company with Mrs. Davis in 1916, under the pastorate of Rev. W. L. Austin. Funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday, March 23, at 2:30 by rev. W. H. Shoaf who spoke from the text, "Fear not, I have redeemed thee-when thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee."—Is. 43:1-2. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
