Schlachter, son of Herman and Hilda [Dudden] Schlachter, was born August 13, 1928 at Glenvil, NE. He died at his home in Holyoke November 1, 1985 at the age of 57 years, 2 months and 18 days. Delmer was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Glenvil. He also received his early education in Glenvil. In 1943 he moved with his family to Holyoke. He graduated from Holyoke High School. On July 25, 1948, he was married to Lois Mae Heermann in Zion Lutheran Church, Holyoke. To this union four sons were born. He was involved with farming throughout his life. Besides owning a dairy for a number of years, he also farmed dryland and irrigated cropland. Delmer was very active in his church as he faithfully served his Lord. In his church he held most offices and served on various boards and committees. He also was a member of the Sunday School teaching staff at the time of his last illness. In addition to his participation at church, he served on the Holyoke School Board, The Mountain Empire Dairymen's Association Board, the Holyoke Cooperative Association and in other community organizations. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hilda. He is survived by his wife Lois; a sister Eleanor Smidt of Bakersfield, CA; a brother Kenneth of Holyoke; four sons, Dennis of Denver, Marc of Holyoke, David of Aurora and James of Gresham, OR; six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Services for Delmer were held November 5, 1985, at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Rev. Gary A. Rahe officiated. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Cemetery.
