Delores Hoefer was born south of Colome, South Dakota on January 22, 1945 to Glenn and Frieda (Kaiser) Hoefer. She attended Winner High School and graduated in 1963. Delores Hoefer was born south of Colome, South Dakota on January 22, 1945 to Glenn and Frieda (Kaiser) Hoefer. She attended Winner High School and graduated in 1963. Delores married William "Bill" Pettit on September 29, 1966. Together they raised three children on the family farm south of Winner. Delores worked on the farm in the earlier years of her marriage to Bill. Later, they owned the Frontier Bar for almost 10 years until Bill passed away in 2001. Delores was actively involved in the American Legion Auxiliary and in the community of Colome. She was a member of the Colome Catholic Church. Delores enjoyed being involved in the Relay for Life in Winner and was an active participant. She was proud of the ½ marathons she did out in Deadwood. Delores married Roland "Zac" Zachow on December 28, 2007. They lived in Colome and enjoyed wintering in Arizona and traveling with their dog, Sophie. Zac taught her to golf and she was instantly addicted which led them to become members of the Gregory Golf Course. Delores is survived by her husband, Roland Zachow, her children: Stacy Pettit, Anchorage, Alaska; Shawn Pettit, Winner, South Dakota; Steven (Jen) Pettit, Higley, Arizona; step daughter Kelly Zachow, O'Fallon, Illinois; step son, Brad Zachow, Wahpeton, North Dakota, three grandchildren, two step grandchildren, her aunts Velma Hart and Ella Ewing and numerous nieces/nephews. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, Bill Pettit, one sister Marcy (Hoefer) Behm, and numerous aunts and uncles. Dee battled cancer for four years having been diagnosed in May of 2008. She fought hard, taking on surgery, four years of chemotherapy and two bouts of radiation. We applaud her perseverance and will miss her dearly.
