Description	:	Delores J. Bruns, 85, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 9, 2019, at CHI Health Saint Francis in Grand Island. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. The Rev. Craig Niemeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Worms. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Delores was born Aug. 3, 1933, at St. Edward the daughter of Niels C. and Gladys (Jacobsen) Thomsen. Delores began her education at St. Edward Public Schools. In 1944, the family moved to Grand Island where she attended Platte Elementary, Walnut Junior High and was a 1951 graduate of Grand Island Senior High . After graduating from high school she worked at the Boss Glove Factory and then for Jack Bailey Photography. She was united in marriage to Vernon A. Bruns on March 24, 1957, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The couple farmed in Merrick County west of Central City on the Ormsby Road for 50 years before moving to Grand Island in 2007. Delores then worked for 6 years at the St. Francis Medical Center cafeteria and then for St. Francis Home Health for 2 years. Vernon died on Sept. 8, 2009. In Jan. 2010, she moved to Bickford Cottage and later to Park Place Nursing Home, where she lived the rest of her life. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Dorcas Ladies Aid, holding many offices, sang in the church choir and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was a zone officer and leader of Christian Life for LWML and founder of the Tri F Church Social Group, and was a longtime 4-H leader and member of the Cheery Center Extension Club. Delores enjoyed photography, flower gardening, crocheting afghans and she was keen on keeping in touch with family and friends. Delores enjoyed sending greeting cards and birthday wishes to everyone. She also loved spending time with and helping her grandchildren. She is survived by her children and spouses, John and Jane Bruns of Overland Park, KS, Jim Bruns of Grand Island, Mark and Lynn Bruns of Dalhart, TX and Mary Ann and Jason Eckberg of Las Vegas, NV; six grandchildren, Adam Bruns, Arin Bruns, Jacilyn Bruns, Julie Bruns, Zachary Bruns and Trey Bruns; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Carol Thomsen of Riverview, FL; and sister-in-law, Virginia Thomsen of Hastings; brother in law, Robert Bruns, of Delaware. In addition to her husband, Vernon, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughters-in-law, Lisa Bruns and Geralyn Bruns; and brother, Donald Thomsen.
