Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, from 2-4 p.m. at the Wight, Comes, Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown. Delores, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Haan) Klein was born May 24, 1920, near Waverly, SD. She graduated from Waverly High School. On June 24, 1941, Delores was united in marriage to Lawrence T. Kahnke in Waverly, SD. They celebrated 54 years of marriage together on their farm near Florence where they raised six children. Delores worked on the farm with her husband and was a loving housewife and mother. Once her children were grown, she became employed at Herberger's in Watertown and later at Metz Bakery from which she retired. Delores continued to live on the farm until 2009 when she moved to Benet Place in Watertown, and then to Country View Assisted Living in Florence. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish and an active member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed working with young people and helped start the first Florence 4-H Club of which she was a Club leader. Other organizations she was actively involved in was the Florence Community Club, Florence Red Hat Society, and Catholic Daughters of America. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, making crafts, sewing, doing word finds, eating date filled cookies, caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending daily Mass, and having coffee with friends. Delores also loved to have fun and joke with both young and old, but her true love in her life was family. Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; two sons, James and Charles Kahnke; her son-in-law, Bruce Brinkman; her two brothers, Frank and Leo Klein; and two sisters, Cecelia Klein and Rose Bourgeois Grateful for having shared her life are her surviving four children, Jeraldine "Jerri" (Alan) Rogers, Donna (Dave) Goeman, Larry (Rose) Kahnke and Jeanette Brinkman; two daughters-in-law, Georgia Kahnke and Cindy Heald; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
