Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Clear Lake. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center, her granddaughters: Lori McCormick, Jolyn Nielsen and Jeriann Carvell and great-grandchildren: Kylie Nielsen, Tanner Nielsen, Ryan McCormick, Marissa McCormick, Abigail Carvell, Katelyn Carvell and Christopher Carvell. Active pallbearers will be Brad Hofman, Jason Hofman, Todd Nielsen, Cade Carvell, Steve McCormick, Dan Hofman, Alvin Cook, George Cook, Lorne Harms, Keith Parker, and Dave Elliott. Music will be provided by Marilyn Halse, organist. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Houseman Family Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD and will resume Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Delores Hofman was born on June 11, 1911 to John Henry and Etta Mae (Buckner) Elliott near Clear Lake, South Dakota. She was raised on a farm two and a half miles south of Clear Lake, where she received her education. Delores was united in marriage to Simon Hofman on March 2, 1934 in Clear Lake's Methodist Church parsonage. To this union two sons were born, Roger and Vernon. They lived and farmed near Brandt until they bought a farm by Clear Lake. In 1966 they retired to Clear Lake. Simon passed away on September 28, 1991. In 2005, Delores entered the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake where she resided until her passing on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 16 days. Delores was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. She was active in Aid at the church, the Friendly Neighbors Ladies Club, and in the Senior Citizens. Delores also enjoyed helping out around the farm. Grateful for having shared Delores's life are her two sons, Roger (Karen) Hofman of Clear Lake and Vernon (Twila) Hofman of Fargo, ND; five grandchildren: Lori McCormick, Jolyn Nielsen, Brad Hofman, Jeriann Carvell and Jason Hofman; and seven great-grandchildren: Kylie Nielsen, Tanner Nielsen, Ryan McCormick, Marissa McCormick, Abigail Carvell, Katelyn Carvell and Christopher Carvell and several nieces and nephews. Delores is preceded in death by her husband, Simon Hofman, parents, three brothers and two sisters.
