Kurtz was born June 20, 1925, at Groton, S.D., to John and Blanche (Riley) Kurtz. She grew up on a farm south of James, S.D., and attended school at East Jim Township School. She married Alfred G. Wilson on Feb. 20, 1943, and moved to Aberdeen, S.D. Alfred enlisted in the service and they moved to Bangor, Maine, until he was discharged. Upon returning to this area, they leased and operated Phillips 66 on Sixth Avenue Southwest until 1947. In 1947, they bought a farm near Mina, S.D., and farmed there until 1964. They then moved to a farm near Aberdeen and milked dairy cows until 1967 before moving into town. She had a daycare for 12 years, caring for 75 children through those years. In 1983, she and her husband moved outside of Aberdeen and remained there until 2000, when they moved back to Aberdeen. In 2003, she entered the Aberdeen Living Center. Deloris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mina and Aberdeen and a past member of the Women of the Moose. Her memory lives on with her husband, Alfred G. Wilson of Aberdeen, S.D.; one son, Alfred G. (Judy) Wilson Jr. of Hayti, S.D.; five daughters, Judith (Robert) Johnson of Aberdeen, S.D., Janice Siemucha of Hecla, S.D., Joan (Terry) Lilla of Hecla, S.D., Joyce (Jeff) Medley of Rapid City, S.D., Julie (Rick) Laux of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Verna Herzog of Yakima, Wash., LaVonne (Glen) Ham of Cambridge, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. Honorary casket bearers will be her friends and neighbors. Casket bearers will be grandchildren, Douglas Johnson, Paul Johnson, Chris Lilla, Cody Zerr, Pam Blais, Jennifer Pena, Lisa Krueger and Bonnie Henjum. Published in the Aberdeen News on 8/29/2006.
