Description	:	Delpha Graber, 91, of Foley, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at the Foley Nursing Center. She was the wife of the Rev. Ellis Graber for almost 45 years, until his death 20 years ago. Born in Kingman, Kan., she was a daughter to the late Jacob P. and Mary J. (Miller) Waltner. The family moved to Freeman, S.D. in 1918. She was the wife of the Rev. Ellis Graber for almost 45 years, until his death 20 years ago. Born in Kingman, Kan., she was a daughter to the late Jacob P. and Mary J. (Miller) Waltner. The family moved to Freeman, S.D. in 1918. Her father died when she was fifteen, and she, her mother, and her sisters were able to sustain their farm, even through the Depression years. She graduated from Freeman Academy in 1934, Freeman Jr. College in 1936, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethel College, North Newton Kan., in 1939. She also studied at Hartford Theological Seminary, Hartford, Conn., for three semesters. With her husband, she was an active partner in church ministry, directing church choirs, motion worship choirs and renditions of Handel's Messiah. She sang her entire life. She also worked as the Activity Director at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio. She also helped her husband by driving tractors, milking cows, giving chapel talks and even preaching sermons. She is survived by her son and daughters: Eric Graber of Minneapolis, Connie Baylock and her husband Dale of Pioneer, Calif., and Joan Brauen and her husband Bill of Foley, and Karen Sims and her husband DJ of Maize, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her sisters, Welma Waltner of Freeman, S.D., Stella Schrag and her husband Delbert of Forest Grove, Ore., and brother-in-law, LeRoy Graber and his wife Virginia of Freeman, S.D. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Scott Conway and Norma Jean, and a grandson, Jacob Kester. A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 4 at First Presbyterian Church, Foley. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the First Presbyterian Church, and an hour prior to the service on Friday. A memorial service and interment will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman, S.D. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee or Heifer Project International. Arrangements by the Foley Funeral Home, Foley, Minn.
