D. Barker of south of Nevada, were held at 4 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon in the Nevada cemetery. Funeral services were held from the Slininger Chapel in Jefferson at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1942. Rev. Frank Garrett, pastor of Christ at Farlin officiated at the services. Mrs. C. C. Charles sang "Shadows" and "No Night There" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Dean Barker. Those serving as pallbearers were Jess Barker, Leslie Barker, Frank Ray, Earl Barker, Wess Huff and Clint Warfield. Interment was made beside her husband in the Nevada cemetery. Among those from her in attendance at the funeral services in Jefferson, and accompanying the funeral cortege to the Nevada cemetery were Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Barker, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Barker, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Huff, Mrs. J. G. Gutekunst, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Pousch and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ray. The following obituary was read at the funeral service. "Delphine, the daughter of Jess and Elizabet Barker was born in Steuben county, New York state, Nov. 14, 1864 and was taken from this life at the hospital in Jefferson, Iowa, Nov. 30, 1942, being 78 years and 16 days of age. As a small child she came with her parents and other members of the family to a homestead near Nevada, Iowa. The family experienced many interesting events on the trip by covered wagon from New York state. There were twenty five wagons in the train. At that time much of Illinois was not settled and in Iowa, west of the Mississippi, which was crossed with a raft, there was nothing much but wild prairie--no bridges an little n the way of roads. Delphine was married in the parental home near Nevada on March 1, 1891 to William C. Bennett. In 1900 the young couple came to the Farlin locality where they resided for sixteen years. In 1916 the Bennett family went to the Panora vicinity where they lived on their farm. There on October 12, 1920 Mr. Bennett passed away. Mrs. Bennett moved into Panora in 1928 where she continued to reside with the exception of the time she has spent in Farlin. She leaves surviving, her son, Harry of Panora, Iowa, daughter, Mrs. Eugene Try of Farlin, Iowa and her five grandchildren. All of her eight brothers and sister have preceded her in death."
