Read More	Mr. Delton Russell, 88, of Hutchinson,and formerly of Galva, Kansas passed away at 2:38 p.m., Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 while in the company of family members at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. Delton Dean Russell, the son of Daniel Lewis "Lute" and Beulah J. (Waln) Russell, was born January 21, 1921 at Canton, Kansas. He was the eldest of six children born to this union, three sons and three daughters: Delton, Marvin, Yunietta, LeVonne, Rex, and Carolee. Delton attended the Lily country school and graduated from Canton High School, Canton, Kansas in 1939. On August 11, 1944 Delton joined the United States Army and served as a Corporal with Company H 60th Infantry Division During W.W.II. He served in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns and battles. He was designated an Expert Infantryman Badge, received the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, 3 Overseas Service Bars, Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, and Good Conduct Medal prior to being honorably discharged on August 1, 1946. Delton was united in marriage to Bonnie Lou Tinsley on November 23, 1947 at Bonnie's parents home in Canton, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together on a farm near Galva, Kansas. They joined the Galva United Methodist Church and were faithful members. This union was blessed with the birth of four sons, Dick, Roy, John, and Alan. Delton was a Grade A. Dairy Farmer for many years prior to owning and operating Delton's Service Repair of Galva. This is where he was able to use his mechanical knowledge and he applied it to just about any kind of automobile, engine or mechanical devices. Any kind of farm implement or tool that was broken, Delton usually could find a way to fix it and make it work like new again. He also gained many friendships through the years in this venture. Delton was a devoted Christian, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His wise counsel, firm guidance, and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was very proud of his boys and always wanted the best for them. Delton was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren always looking forward to their visits and times they would share together. Delton spent many enjoyable hours working on his woodworking projects. Delton, age 88, passed away at 2:38 p.m., Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 while in the company of family members at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving members of his family include his loving and devoted wife of over 61 years, Bonnie Russell of Hutchinson, Kansas; his son's: Dick Russell and his wife Jane of Hutchinson, Kansas, Roy Russell of Sterling, Kansas, John Russell of West New York, New Jersey, and Alan Russell and his wife LeeAnn of Olathe, Kansas; his siblings, Marvin Russell of Loganville, Georgia, Yunietta Taylor of Hillsboro, Kansas, LeVonne Minear and her husband Bill of Canton, Kansas, Rex Russell and his wife Nadine of Mentor, Kansas, and Carolee Chartier and her husband Wayne of McPherson, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, Chandra Knowles and her husband Brandon, Kerry Helmuth and her husband Mike, Kylee Russell, Justin Russell, Tim Russell, Cassie Russell, Keli Russell, and Tara Russell; 2 great-grandchildren, Emma Henderson and Callum Russell; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, a host of friends, and his faithful canine companion, Angel. Friends are invited to call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Galva United Methodist Church, Galva, Kansas. The funeral service will be held at Galva United Methodist Church, Galva, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18th, with Reverend Richard Brooks officiating. Special music "My Mother's Bible" and "Wing of A Dove" will be sung by Chuck Laughlin and accompanied by Noleen Binder. "When I Get Where I'm Going" will be played. The final resting place will be the Canton Township Cemetery, Canton, Kansas. Military honors will be presented by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24 both of McPherson, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Galva United Methodist Church or American Heart Association and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
