Description	:	Delwin F. Deaver, 85, Berthold, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his home. Delwin was born July 7, 1926, at Minot, the oldest of six children to Earl and Olive (Hawes) Deaver. He was raised and educated at Berthold and during his younger years assisted his father with the operation of the family farm. Delwin was born July 7, 1926, at Minot, the oldest of six children to Earl and Olive (Hawes) Deaver. He was raised and educated at Berthold and during his younger years assisted his father with the operation of the family farm. In addition, he worked for Haugen and Roise Implement in Berthold and at the Tioga Gasification Plant. Delwin was united in marriage to Ruth Trondson on Sept. 17, 1946. They made their home at Berthold until moving to the Trondson farmstead south of Berthold in 1957. Delwin loved to farm. He and Ruth grew small grains and sunflowers, in addition to having beef and dairy cattle. He retired in 1989, and moved to Berthold in 1992. He never had dogs in town, however the dogs at the farm always remembered him as he brought treats to them on every trip. Delwin played amateur baseball and his love of sports continued throughout the years. He coached grade school boys basketball and refereed basketball games for 20 years. Watching basketball games with him in later years, he rarely thought there was a bad call. Delwin enjoyed watching his grandchildren play, as well as following all of the local sporting events. He was an avid Minnesota Viking and Twins fan. In 2010 and 2011, Delwin and Ruth had the opportunity to travel by motor coach to watch the Twins play. They had seats in a suite and it was truly a highlight for him. Last year, he was able to go down onto the field and watch batting practice. Many family members made that trip with him. During his retirement years, Delwin enjoyed playing pool with friends in Carpio and Berthold. Even bad winter weather didn't keep him home if there was a pool match to be played. He also played cards at the Berthold Senior Center and there was often a card game of pinochle or whist at the Deaver household. He had a way of knowing what everyone had for a hand and enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids how to play. He was an excellent teacher and good natured if the cards didn't quite come his way. Delwin was a member of Berthold Baptist Church, served as past president of the Berthold School Board and was also a member of the N.D. Farm Bureau and Berthold Senior Citizens. His pride and joy was his family. He was always so proud of his wife, children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth always had the coffee pot on with some baked goodies ready for anyone that stopped by to visit. If you came as a friend you left as family! Delwin is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Ruth; children, Dennis (Jacki) Deaver, of Berthold, and their children, Brandi Deaver and special friend, Luke Jarland, Derrick Deaver and his fiancee, Wanda Brown, Denver (Janelle) Deaver; LaVonne (Kenneth) Hornberger, of Berthold, and their children, Travis (Bonita) Hornberger, Wade (Wendy) Hornberger, Jana (Andy) Elberg, Breann (Monte) Lund; Linda (Glenn) Stockdill, of Garrison, and their children, Ryan Stockdill, Brad Stockdill, Carlie (Lance) Voth; Danny (Debbie) Deaver, of Berthold, and their children, Waylon (Patti) Deaver, Brooke (Ryan) Storro; Lori (Panch) Harshaw, Berthold; Leanne (Mark) Brossart, of Minot, and their children, Dustin Martin, Kallie Martin and special friend, Ben Goodman, Travis (Tabitha) Brossart; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Quade, Cashley, Samuel, Audra, Bailey, Hannah, Clancy, Kara, Colby, Delaney, Emma, Molly, Owen, Gavin, Gage, Gunner, Gretchen, Gwendolyn, Reese, Triston, Nathaniel and Elyse; brother, Allie Deaver, of Berthold; sisters, Mildred Haugen, of Williston, Doris Greenup, of Berthold; sisters-in-law, Judy Deaver, of Minot, and Marilyn Deaver, of Berthold; and a number of nieces and nephews and cousins. Delwin was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Lee and Gary. Funeral service: Friday, March 16, at 2 p.m., in Berthold Baptist Church. Interment: Wildrose Cemetery, rural Berthold.
