Description	:	Dena Cornelia Bokhoven was born near Taintor, Iowa on June 15, 1930. She was the ninth child born to Herman W. and Antonia (Ver Ploegh) Bokhoven. Dena was baptized at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. She attended the Lunt Country School and then the Peoria Christian School. She was the ninth child born to Herman W. and Antonia (Ver Ploegh) Bokhoven. Dena was baptized at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. She attended the Lunt Country School and then the Peoria Christian School. She graduated from Pella Christian High School with the class of 1948. Dena began her lifelong career with the Pella National Bank. She started as a bookkeeper, then was promoted to teller. Dena eventually moved through several promotions and became the Vice President of Operations for the bank. She was a valuable asset to the bank with her abilities and character. Dena also served as the secretary for the Board of Directors of the bank. She retired from banking after serving for over 40 years. She did not retire from volunteering and serving. Many people would describe Dena as a servant to others and an ambitious volunteer to those in need. Dena was a wonderful Christian example to her family and friends. She was integral in her membership to the Second Christian Reformed Church, and later the Cornerstone Church of Pella. She gave of her time and talents teaching Sunday School, starting the Gem and Calvinette programs, and later the Perk Up Women's group at the church. Dena spent over ten years volunteering a week every summer for the church mission project at Cary, Mississippi. Dena and her sister Anne kept the Bokhoven family home open for family gatherings for many years, even after moving to the Pella Manor where they continue reside. Dena passed away suddenly on December 31, 2021, at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 91 years. Dena is survived by her dear sister Anne Bokhoven, the last surviving member of the original Bokhoven family, along with a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, H. W. and Antonia Bokhoven; and the following brothers and sisters: Herman Bokhoven, Gerrit Bokhoven, Anthony Bokhoven, Arthur Bokhoven, Henry Bokhoven, Minnie Roose, Jean Vos and Irene Blom. Dena will be missed by her extended family and the many friends which she developed deep friendships with during her lifetime. She was a wonderful woman who gave to others with love and compassion. Dena has gained life's reward with her Savior.
