Steiert, Calmar and Rev. James Secora, Decorah, concelebrated the mass at 11 o'clock. Sister Andrea, organist, and St. Johns Choir provided the music. Lector was George Barloon. Carrying the offertory gifts were grandson Kevin and Ricky Einck. Burial was in the church cemetery, and Chekal funeral home made the arrangements. Mr. Meyer died suddenly at his home Thursday, Jan. 27. He was a retired construction worker. Denis Meyer was born July 27, 1908 at Fort Atkinson, the son of Martin A. and Dorothea Meyer and received his education in Fort Atkinson schools. He served in the second world war from 1942 until 1945 and was a member of the Navy Seabees, stationed in the South Pacific. On August 14, 1945 he was married to Gertrude Rausch in St. Johns Church by the Rev. Stephen Kucera. They were the parents of four children, Mary Lee (Mrs. Allyn Einck), New Hampton, James, Marshalltown, Denise (Mrs. Ken Kuehner), Mankato, Mn. and David at home. They made their home in Fort Atkinson where he was employed at Rausch Chevrolet for 10 years, then began road construction work for F.A. Moser, Pierce and Myers Bros. until retiring in 1973. The past two years he was employed by the city of Fort Atkinson. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the American Legion and Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife and children and three grandchildren, also three brothers and two sisters, Legor, Flint, Mich., Eugene, Calmar, Jerome, Donnybrook, North Dakota, Eqphemia Slucka, Calmar and Hildegard Schissel. His parents, a sister Margaret and brother Rudolph preceded him in death. Mrs. Meyer is Decorah Newspapers correspondent for the Fort Atkinson area.
