Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Washington Reformed Church in rural Ackley with burial in the church cemetery. Read More	Dennis Lupkes, 68, of Parkersburg, passed away on Wednesday May 9, 2018 at home in Parkersburg. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Washington Reformed Church in rural Ackley with burial in the church cemetery. Dennis Lupkes was born Saturday, March 19, 1950 in Aplington, Iowa. He was raised on a farm south of Dumont, Iowa. He attended Dumont Community grade, junior high, and high school graduating in 1968. While in school, he was active in band, choir, student council, and was the editor of the yearbook his senior year. Dennis received an Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Arts Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1972. He also minored in driver education. He taught high school automotives and general shop courses in Brooklyn, Iowa for three years. While in Brooklyn he also taught drivers education. Dennis moved on to Ft. Madison, Iowa for two additional years of teaching automotives and drafting. Dennis resigned his teaching position to seek further education, this time in the Photographic field receiving as Associates of Arts Degree in 1980 from what was then Hawkeye Institute of Technology. After graduation, Dennis was hired by Battelle Northwest Labs in Richland, Washington as a photographic lab technician at the Hanford Works. Through government contract reorganization, Dennis’ position was transferred to Boeing Computer Services. Working at Hanford gave him a wide experience in the workings of the nuclear field and weapons production. Dennis had an opportunity to operate the family farm, which he took in 1995. After one season, Dennis decided to return to the Northwest and eventually was hired as a high school photography instructor at Kennewick High School in Kennewick, Washington, a position he held for 18 years before retiring in 2016. Dennis never married and is survived by his mother, Juliet, of Parkersburg, Iowa and his brother Keith, of Ackley, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur, of Parkersburg, Iowa.
