He married Mary J. Briner on May 30, 1981. A 1973 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he had been a butcher at Paxton's Grocery in Ottumwa and Jim's Jack and Jill in Fairfield. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Kelly Shepard of Ottumwa, Danielle Shepard of Iowa City and Anna Shepard of Agency; two sons, Jason and Justin Shepard of Agency; three sisters, Gloria Geary of Libertyville, Karen Brown of Ottumwa and Patricia Haring of Oswego, Ill.; four brothers, Robert, Steven and Kevin E Shepard of Ottumwa and Gary Shepard of Batavia; and five step-brothers, Roger, Rick, Robin, Ryan and Ronnie Ragen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Bill Ragen; and an infant sister, Pamela Sue Shepard. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today. An Independant Order of Odd Fellows service will be at 6:30 p.m. today with the family present until 8:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be John Greer, Charlie Newton, Mike Thrasher, Bryan and Spence Shepard and Mike Perkins.
