Collins will be held tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock at the family home, 106 Iowa avenue, and will be in charge of Rev. R.H. Polly, pastor of the Christian church. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The hour was set for the convenience of those attending from a distance. A cablegram from the two sons, Captain Carter Collins and Quinlin Collins of Honolulu, today brought the news that all steamships from that port fro the United States were booked up to the limit for weeks to come and that no army transport would leave fro several weeks. They expect to arrive in this country the last of June as the soonest possible date. Ernest C. Collins, a brother, will arrived tonight from his home in Malvern, but a telegram from Ira Collins, another brother, of San Diego, Calif., said it would be impossible for hi to come. > Fairfield Daily Ledger Saturday May 24, 1924 Pg. 1 Col. 2 COLLINS FUNERAL HELD YESTERDAY Services At Home At 4 Oclock And Interment Took Place In Evergreen Funeral services for Dennis C. Collins, were held yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the family home, 106 Iowa avenue, and were in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly, pastor of the Christian church of which Mr. Collins was a member. Floral tributes from friends here and at a distance were received in great profusion and attested the esteem in which Mr. Collins was held. Rev. Polly spoke with feeling in his sermon and Mrs. L. W. Van Nostrand, accompanied by Mrs. William Stever, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". (sic. pallbearers) bearers were: Clarence P. Hague, R. A. Yeager, Ed Davis, J. E. Fleming, W. H. Bangs and Harry Kilpatrick. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery. > Fairfield Daily Ledger Tuesday May 27, 1924 Pg. 7 Col. 6 OBITUARY DENNIS C. COLLINS Dennis C. Collins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter (sic) Collins, was born near Salina in Jefferson county, Iowa, October 27, 1869, and departed this life at his home in Fairfield, Iowa, May 21, 1924, after an illness of nearly five months. He gained his education in the rural and Fairfield schools and was graduated from the pharmacy school of Northwestern university in Chicago when he was 21 years old. He went to Packwood and was in the drug business there for three years, coming to Fairfield and engaging in the same business for six years. Since then he was a salesman for several wholesale drug houses, his last connection being with Foley & company of Chicago. On March 1, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude R. Cowen of near Packwood. She and three children, Capt. Carter Collins and Quinlin Collins and Mrs. L. M. Fryer, survive. Another son, Richard, 11 years old, met death in a train accident here about six years ago (sic. December 14, 1918). Four brothers are living, Ira Collins, of Los Angeles, M. R. Collins of Fairfield, Grant M. Collins of San Diego, Calif., and Earnest C. Collins of Malvern, Iowa. Two sister (sic), Mrs. Alonzo Green of Fairfield and Mrs. Emma Chester of Kansas City, preceded him in death. Mr. Collins was a Mason and a member of the Christian church, being an active worker in the latter and devoted to its interests. Funeral services were conducted from the home, 106 Iowa Avenue, Friday afternoon at four oclock by his pastor, Rev. R. H. Polly, Mrs. L. W. Van Nostrand sang "Beautiful Isle," and "Asleep in Jesus." Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
