Hamilton, who passed away on November 11th, were held at the Methodist Episcopal church on Friday afternoon last, conducted by the Reverend E. W. Frohardt. A large number of old-time friends and neighbors from over the county were in attendance. Dennis David Hamilton, son of Samuel and Mary Holland Hamilton, was born in Wapello township, near the Bethel church, on February 3, 1850, and reached the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 8 days. He was the last surviving member of a family of twelve children. Mr Hamilton was united in marriage to Sarah Caroline Hunt, November 11, 1885, spending the greater part of his married life on the Hamilton farm north of Morning Sun. Five children were born to this home: Samuel, who died in infancy; Mrs. Franc Gipple, who departed this life December 30, 1929; Curtis of Wapello; Mrs Phronia McConahay and Dee of Morning Sun. He leaves also eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Early in life he united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Morning Sun, being the son of one of its charter members, and lived a consistent Christian life. He had no fear of death, and often spoke of his being willing and ready to go. He was highly esteemed by his friends, neighbors and associates. His life stood for high ideals. In all his business relations he emphasized the attitude of square-dealing, helpfulness and brotherly love toward his fellow-men, and took an intense interest in all matters, political and otherwise, pertaining to the state and nation of his birth.
