Description	:	Dennis Eugene Koller, 77, died May 28, 2012, at Oakview Terrace, Freeman, S.D. He was the youngest son of John Sr. and Maxine Koller of Parker, S.D., born on Sept. 28, 1934. One of 11 siblings, Dennis grew up on farms near Parker, attended county school Finley No. 8 and District No. 6 until sixth grade when he entered Parker Public School. Read More	Dennis Eugene Koller, 77, died May 28, 2012, at Oakview Terrace, Freeman, S.D. He was the youngest son of John Sr. and Maxine Koller of Parker, S.D., born on Sept. 28, 1934. One of 11 siblings, Dennis grew up on farms near Parker, attended county school Finley No. 8 and District No. 6 until sixth grade when he entered Parker Public School. After high school he attended Springfield Southern State Teacher's College for one year. Dennis was active in basketball and football. During his adolescence he was an avid Boy Scout member, which earned him the nickname of "Scout." Dennis worked for Jack Soeth of Hurley, S.D. During this period of his life he was briefly enrolled as a basic airman of the 175th Air National Guard at Sioux Falls, S.D. He joined the Masons and worked for Jack Sherard of Parker. Later he purchased and ran the Parker Milk Plant. During this time in his life he enjoyed coaching baseball and was a volunteer fireman. Dennis worked as the Parker City Auditor for a short time and started Koller's Kitchen in 1972, In 1974 he began work as a State Farm agent at Freeman, S.D. After moving to Freeman, he and his wife hosted the Freeman Flatlander for many pheasant hunting buddies. Dennis spent many hours hunting, fishing and golfing with family and friends. Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Berneda Poppe, at the Parker Methodist Church in 1955. Survivors include his wife and three children: Kim (David) Reed, Kerry (Peggy) Koller, and Kecia (Kevin) Christensen; five grandchildren: Lyndsi (Mitchell) Slusarski, Meghan Reed, Merissa and Cameron Koller, Dillan Christensen; four great-grandchildren: Baron and Giada Slusarski, Traejan and Justice Reed; one brother, Duane (Paula) Koller; three sisters: Geraldine (Arvid) Magnuson, Darlene (Roger) Kehm and Donna Friman; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were both parents; one brother in infancy; brothers: John Jr., Dale and Marlyn; and sisters: Shirley and Patsy. Denny "Scout" Koller will be remembered for his sense of humor and his generosity. The funeral was held Saturday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, rural Freeman, with Rev. Eric Deckert officiating. Organist was Renee Hartman with Duane Koller providing special music. The grandchildren participated in the service with words of tribute by Lyndsi Slusarski, Meghan Reed, Merissa and Cameron Koller. Dillan Christensen gave the benediction. Pallbearers were Dillan Christensen, Kevin Christensen, Cameron Koller, Dave Reed, Dave Swier and Jim Clikeman. Honorary pallbearers were Mitch Slusarski, Mike Day, John Gauper and Courtney Claflin. Inurnment was at Salem-Zion Mennonite Church Cemetery.
