Dennis Jones died of injuries he received when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle in West Pelzer. His 9/20 obituary was brief, and listed only in general terms that he was survived by his wife, five daughters and four sons, his parents, six sisters and two brothers. His 9/21 obituary listed pallbearers, flower girls, and the honorary escort but still did not list the family members by name. Funeral services: Tuesday, September 21, 1948, Whitefield Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. W.J. Jordan and Rev. J. E. Crawford. Burial: Whitefield Baptist Church Cemetery. As was still the custom of the day, his remains were returned to the family home for visitation until the time of the funeral.
