He died May 7, 1991, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, at age 45 years, five months and 26 days. 'Clem", as he was known, was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church, and attended St. Paul's Catholic School, graduating in 1963. Read More	Dennis Schaben, 45 Nov. 11, 1945 — May 7,1991 DEFIANCE - Dennis Nickolas Schaben, son of Clarence and Catherine (Block) Schaben was born Nov. 11, 1945, at Harlan. He died May 7, 1991, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, at age 45 years, five months and 26 days. 'Clem", as he was known, was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church, and attended St. Paul's Catholic School, graduating in 1963. After school, he became employed at Stessman Standard in Defiance, a position he held until retiring in 1990, due to his illness. Oct. 17, 1970, he married Janice Mites in Harlan. They were the parents of two children. In addition to being a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, he was active in the Defiance Community Club; he had served on the city council from 1974 to 1977; he was the Mayor of Defiance from 1978 to 1980; and he was a member of the Defiance Volunteer Fire Dept. He was preceded in death by his brother, Adolph in 1973, and his father, Clarence in June of 1990. Survivors are his son, Troy Schaben of Harlan; his daughter, Gina Schaben of Harlan; and their mother, Janice Schaben of Harlan; his mother, Catherine Schaben of Fading; three sisters, Mary (Richard) Muell of Mo. Valley; AJice (Leo) McCuKough of Carroll, and Martene (Lyle) Christensen of Audubon; three brothers, Donald, Tobe, and Allan Schaben, all of Defiance; nieces and nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 10, 1991, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance with Rev. Paul Bianchi as the celebrant. Burial was in the Sts. Peter & Paul cemetery. Defiance, with Joe Stolz, Pat Goeser, Paul Goeser, Ron Arkfeld, Alan Jensen, John Kloewer, David Stessman and Larry Stessman, casketbearers. Pauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
