He grew up in the Minden area and was a graduate of Minden High School. He attended college in Hastings and Kearney and received his degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his aeronautical training in Tulsa, OK and Hawthorne, CA On May 9, 1964 he married Judith Bauer at Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in Kearney before moving to Grand Island in 1972. Mr Nelson was a commercial crop duster. He was president of Aviation Services, Inc., and Grand Island Spraying Services Inc. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Ashlar Lodge in Grand Island, Tehama Shrine of Hastings, the Grand Island Sertoma Club and the past president of the Nebraska Aviation Trade Association. He was active in state agricultural committees. Survivors include his widow; two sons Kirk Jon and Brock Devin, both at home; his parents of Minden; two brothers Harlan of El Campo, TX and Gilbert of Minden; two sisters Mrs William (Merna)) Rewerts of Papillion and Mrs Warren (Maurine) Eckloff of Minden.
