Monday, January 30, 2012, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, IA with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Dennis is survived by five daughters, Kelli Kelchen (John) of Marion, Heather Burkart (Terry) of West Des Moines, Rachel Van Tomme (Ed) of Cedar Rapids, Nicole Wagner (Jim) of Cedar Rapids, and Tiffany Van Tomme of Cedar Rapids; a son Dennis Kramer of Kentucky; six grandchildren, Justin, Wyatt and Reagan Burt and Caleb, Abbe and Ellie Wagner; his mother Mervin Rachel Van Tomme of Brooklyn, and a sister Colette Pfetzing of Sacramento, CA. He was preceded in death by his father Rene Van Tomme. Dennis Van Tomme was born June 6, 1942 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Rene and Mervin Rachel West Van Tomme. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1960 and attended the University of Iowa for 3 years, studying Aeronautical Engineering. Dennis was an entrepreneur. He pursued a successful career in investment sales and small business ownership. He sold kitchenware for many years and was top salesman for many of those years. His proudest moments were feeding the homeless on Thanksgiving at his restaurant Denny's Green Square. He operated several restaurants over the years, including The Flamingo, The King Tutt Lounge, Denny's Green Square and The Flame Room. He was a member of SaPaDaPaSo. Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, gardening and playing euchre. But he especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
