He had been afflicted with a coronary heart ailment, that had affected him for the past four years. McDonald was born Feb. 2, 1896, at Greenwood, N.Y., and came to Choteau when he was six weeks old. His parents permanently were living in Choteau at the time of his birth, but his mother was visiting her former home in New York at the time the child was born. His boyhood years were spent on the McDonald ranch west of Choteau. Here he first acquired his liking for the outdoors, which was an important aspect of his later life. He attended the Choteau public school and was graduated from Teton county high school in a class consisting of just two students. He went on to attend Montana State University at Missoula, where he was affiliated with Sigma Chi fraternity. On June 25, 1919, he married Eva Marie Sturgeon, who had formerly lived at Wheatland, N.D., and had come to Choteau in 1913. Mrs. McDonald survives her husband as does his mother, Mrs. C.S. McDonald and an adopted daughter, Leah, daughter of the late Katherine McDonald Kinkle, who passed away Feb. 25, 1949 at Laguna Beach, CA. McDonald served overseas in the army in World War I. Except for the war period and for university schooling, he spent all of life at Choteau.
