He was born April 6, 1924 in Wellfleet, Neb., to Derry and Leona Conklin. He moved to Trout Creek, Mont., at age 10 and resided there until he went into the Navy during World War II. He met Dorothy Anderson, who was working in the shipyards, and they married in 1945 in California. He worked at Con-Wed for 25 years and then for the City of Cloquet's Park Department for 11 years prior to his retirement in 1988. He loved to fish, golf, garden, dance and play cribbage. He especially loved to play cribbage with his granddaughter, Tami Boedigheimer, who he battled it out with every Wednesday until three weeks before his death. The last time they played, he beat her all three games and he was pretty tickled with that. He was a wonderful man. He will be remembered for all the homes he built and his willingness to help out his family and friends with any building or remodeling projects. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; his brother, Chuck Conklin; and sister, Myrtle McAlister. He is survived by two daughters, Diane (Bob) Norrgard, Mission, Texas, Karen (Jerry) Honkala, Cloquet Minn.; one son, Gary (Diane) Conklin, Midway, Ark.; three sisters, Devra (Alwood) Wilde, Ore., Donna (Bob) Gent, Washington, June Kraus, Montana; sister-in-law, Vera Nash, Ore.; grandchildren, Tami (Tony) Boedigheimer, Rick (Becky) Norrgard, Tonia Mehrhoff, Stacey Honkala, Lenny, Shannon, Garry 'Mush' and Ryan Conklin and Christopher Davis; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. PRIVATE MEMORIAL SERVICE:will be held by the family. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
