Description	:	Daughter of August & Anna Christena (Tena) Swanson. She was the youngest of nine children. She spent her childhood on a farm 19 miles west of Fullerton. On December 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Marvin Glen Cowell in St. Paul. As newlyweds, they lived in Hollywood, California, where they resided for three years until Marvin went into the Army during World War II. She spent her childhood on a farm 19 miles west of Fullerton. On December 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Marvin Glen Cowell in St. Paul. As newlyweds, they lived in Hollywood, California, where they resided for three years until Marvin went into the Army during World War II. She moved with their baby daughter to Central City awaiting Marvin's return from serving for three years in the European Theatre. To this loving couple were born four children: LaDonna Jean, David Glen, Marlene Ann, and Deborah Lynn. They lived in Ashland, Nebraska; Chapman, Nebraska; Sterling, Colorado; Sidney, Nebraska; and Phillipsburg, Kansas. Her husband, Marvin, with whom she shared a mutual deep abiding love, passed away on March 1, 1989. Dessie had tenderly cared for him during 17 years of illness prior to his death. Dessie suffered a massive stroke ten years ago, at which time she moved to Beverly Health Care in O'Neill. Dessie enjoyed the many friends she made while in O'Neill. Phone calls, letters, and visits were so special to her. She lived a very high quality life until taking ill on February 14, 2005. She passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2005, at St. Anthony's Hospital after a very short illness. Dessie professed her love for God at a young age, then recommitted herself to living for Him in 1960 in Sterling, Colorado, at the home of her dear friends, John and Pauline Nelson. She served Him faithfully to the end. Her Bible Studies with residents, and on Wednesday evenings were precious to her. She took advantage of every opportunity to serve. Dessie was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents – August and Christena Swanson; sisters – Ella Schow, Dorothy Nelson, Gladys Schwartz, and Ruby Schwartz, and brothers – Merrill, Elvin, and Lowell Swanson. Dessie is survived by her sister – Hilma Maus of Steinbach, Canada; one son – David Glen and wife Patricia Cowell of St. Charles, Missouri; three daughters – LaDonna Jean and husband Timothy Brule' of Lincoln; Marlene Ann and husband Kendal Connor of Wichita, Kansas; and Deborah Lynn and husband Darrol Thompson of O'Neill; six grandchildren – Mark and Sheri Cowell of Wildwood, Missouri; USAF Capt. Michael and USAF Lt. Tracie Connor of Goose Creek, South Carolina; USCG Lt. Thomas and USN LTJG. Diana Cowell of Dunedin, Florida; David and Allison Connor of Abilene, Texas; Matthew Cowell of St. Charles, Missouri; and Aleisha Ann-Marie Thompson of O'Neill; two great grandsons – Timothy Mark and William Scott Cowell of Wildwood, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
