Read More	Obituary From “The Ottumwa Courier,” Monday, September 21, 1992: Irene Nordyke OTTUMWA – Former Ottumwan Irene Nordyke, 72, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Ottumwa died at 2:15 a.m. Sept. 18, 1992, at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael, Calif. She was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Jefferson County, Mo., to Joseph H. and Reva I. Ware Rath. She married Robert W. Nordyke on May 24, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan. He died Feb. 19, 1985. A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she had moved to California in March of 1991. She had been a waitress of Elks, Eagles, Highway Inn, and Sylvania Club. She was a charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 114 Auxiliary, O.B. Nelson United No. 3 of American Legion Auxiliary and Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 of Veterans of Foreign Wars. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Grimes of Sacramento; two sons, Gary W. of Charleston, S.C., and Terry Lee of Sacramento; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, James Rath of Chillicothe; and two sisters, Gerada Thomas and Leona Froggett both of West Sacramento. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Orndorff and Norma Guyette; and a half-brother, Charles Rath. The service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Neil Guy of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Services will be by Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary at the grave. Visitation is open, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be sons of legionaires [sic].
