Description	:	Dewight Liles Eldon -- Dewight L. Lilies, 86, of Eldon died at 6 a.m. on June 30, 1998, at his home. He was born March 12, 1912, in Davis County to Charles and Caroline Hewitt Liles. He married Opal Shaffer in July 31, 1933, in Salt Creek Township; she died in 1990. He and his wife farmed their entire lives in Davis and Wapello counties. Read More	Dewight Liles Eldon -- Dewight L. Lilies, 86, of Eldon died at 6 a.m. on June 30, 1998, at his home. He was born March 12, 1912, in Davis County to Charles and Caroline Hewitt Liles. He married Opal Shaffer in July 31, 1933, in Salt Creek Township; she died in 1990. He and his wife farmed their entire lives in Davis and Wapello counties. He was also employed by Haines and Strother Coal Mine Co. for several years. He was actively involved in harness racing and was inducted in the Iowa Harness Racing Association Hall of Fame in 1996. He is survived by four daughters, Julia Saner of Eldon, Carolyn Jones of Floris, Donna Hill of Chillicothe and Connie Simmer of Ottumwa; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi Lathrope of Eldon and Pauline Lind of Little Rock, Ark.; five brothers, Albert of Floris, Emett of Selma, Gene of Eldon, David of Illinois and Paul of Libertyville. He was preceded in death by his wife; an dinfant son; four brothers; four sisters; and three grandchildren. The servicew ill be 10 a.m. Friday at Assembly of God Church in Eldon, the Rev. John Cooper officiating. The body has been cremated and there will be no visitation. A private family committal service of his cremains will be at Bethleham Cemetery near Floris at a later date.
