One of the first women to arrive in Chambers Valley, and who helped her husband build up a home on a homestead, where the north east part of Chambers is now located. This home where the weary traveler found a welcome and a place to abide and rest, is now occupied by Wood Jarman and family, Mr Wrye was the first Postmaster and merchant of this village, founding the newspaper, organizing the Baptist Church; where he and his good wife labored so untiringly for many years. Diana Silver Wilbur was born Dec. I4, I842 at Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada. Was educated in a Ladies' Academy in Moneton, New Brunswick, and studied painting in St John, New Brunswick. She Was converted at the age of sixteen years and united with the Baptist Church in Shediac. She was married to Rufus C. Wrye on November 17th, 1878 in her home in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada. To this union two daughters were born: Lena Alice and Juanita. The deceased was a wonderful mother and a devoted Christian. Mr. and Mrs. Wrye moved to Jolicure, New Brunswick in 1878; coming to Macon, Nebraska in 1880, where they resided for two years, moving to Diller, Nebraska in 1882. Coming to Holt County in 1883; and it is here they have helped build up this great commonwealth, and enjoy the spiritual blessings that have come from the Church they founded. They were permitted to live to see their daughters grow to beautiful Christian characters and settle in good homes. Mr. Wrye departed this life a number of years ago. Grandma Wrye continued living in the old family home for sometime after his death; finally moving into the home occupied by her son-in-law, Wood Jarman, and rented the home place to him. She enjoyed good health until the last ten years when Rheumatism and heart trouble had caused much suffering. Last fall she gradually failed in health and went to spend the winter with her daughter Mrs. Dyke. About Christmas she had an attack of the flu; shortly after this she was moved to the old family home with her younger daughter, Mrs. Jarman where she might be near the Doctor. For the last two months she was unable to get about or attend church and it was her wish that she might be called to her heavenly home. On Sunday she had a relapse of the flu and answered the summons Monday afternoon, March 14, 1927 at the age of 84 years and 3 months. Both daughters were at her bedside when the end of this life came in an unusually beautiful, peaceful and easy way. She was the last of a family of ten, and leaves to mourn her passing, two daughters: Mrs. Lena Dyke and Mrs Juanita Jarman both of Chambers; five grand children; two great grand children, and a number of nieces and nephews living at a distance. Funeral services will be held in the Baptist Church at two p. m. this afternoon, conducted by Rev Krumtum. Interment in the Chambers cemetery by the side of her husband. We join the many friends in expressing tenderest love to the family as they are parted for a time from their dear one We shall miss her, but m s rejoice in her triumphant life, and peaceful rest well earned, in the Heavenly home.
