Description	:	Born October 1, 1912 -Died July 29, 2010. Dick Strating passed away at home with his loving family by his side. Dick was born in Oak Harbor, WA. He moved to Brooks, Canada in 1918 and to Pease, MN in 1925. In 1932, Dick & his brother, Howard, bought a Model T Ford for $25, and drove across country to Pullman, WA to attend Washington State University. He graduated in 1938. Read More	Born October 1, 1912 -Died July 29, 2010. Dick Strating passed away at home with his loving family by his side. Dick was born in Oak Harbor, WA. He moved to Brooks, Canada in 1918 and to Pease, MN in 1925. In 1932, Dick & his brother, Howard, bought a Model T Ford for $25, and drove across country to Pullman, WA to attend Washington State University. He graduated in 1938. Dick married his wife, Aida, in 1939. They lived in Oregon until their move to Northern California in 1950. Dick and Aida were married for 56 years before she died in 1995. Dick married Betsy Butler in 1998. They met when they were both volunteers with S.C.O.P. in McKinleyville. Dick was a great father and grandfather, but most of all a great role model to all. He had 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, & 4 great-great grandchildren. The family has great memories of big family events. Dick was a kind, gentle, hardworking, intelligent family man. Dick was a member of the Masons for over 60 years. He served on the school board in Crescent City. He was a parent leader in PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League, Job's Daughters, & Junior Rifle Club. Dick and Aida always supported their children's activities. Dick worked for the US Forest Service in Oregon. Then he worked in the timber industry as a log buyer, log scaler, logging superintendent/manager in plywood mills & scaling bureau. He worked for Louisiana Pacific for 17 years. He retired in 1977. Dick built 3 boats. The first one in Oregon was for river fishing. His last boat was a 17 foot boat that spent many hours on the ocean salmon fishing. Dick & his family bird hunted and deer hunted. When Dick retired he began the hobby of wood turning. He made many beautiful items as gifts for family. He went on several cross country trips with a travel trailer. Photography was also a hobby. He had a dark room to develop pictures. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Betsy, of McKinleyville; his children Karen Henderson (Lee) of McKinleyville, Jim Strating (Carmen) of NC, Duane Strating (Beth) of Redding. His grandchildren, Richard Henderson (Donna) of NC, Jeff Henderson (Bambi) of Miranda, Greg Henderson of McKinleyv ille, Kristina Dyer (Ed Pichler) of WA, Brenda Frey (Dave) of OR, Larry Strating (Tricia) of CO, Eric Strating (Debbie) of SC, Michelle Bastianelli (Mike) of NV, Angela Thuemler (Kevin) of Redding, Duane Lee Strating (Amanda) of Redding. Great grandchildren are Myles, Mandy, Haylie, Tyler, Melissa, Mason, Kaelee, Kelsey, Anna, Ryan, Abagael, Alexandria, Makenna, Blake, Camryn, & Alexis. Great-great grandchildren are Dylan, Allison, Schyler & Kierra. Dick is also survived by Betsy's children Sandi Henry (Steve) of McKinleyville, Matt Butler (Sherrie) of McKinleyville, Margot Doss (Larry Avereck) of Fontana. Grandchildren Jennefer Padula (Nate) of McKinleyville, Kristina Butler of OR, Christian Henry of OR, Lindsay Henry of OR and Mathew, Brian & Erin. Dick is also survived by his brother, Howard, of Wenatchee, WA, his sister, Stella Theis, of St. Cloud, MN and numerous nieces & nephews. Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Aida; daughter, Patricia Dyer; his parents, Hendrick & Kattie Strating, & sisters, Eva, Wilma, Nellie & Alice.
