Description	:	Dick Vander Werff was born April 9, 1917 in rural Jasper County, near Killduff, Iowa. He passed away September 6, 2006 at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa. He was the second of six children that were born to Gerrit and Nellie (Duinink) Vander Werff. Dick completed the eighth grade at McKinney Country School in rural Jasper County. He passed away September 6, 2006 at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa. He was the second of six children that were born to Gerrit and Nellie (Duinink) Vander Werff. Dick completed the eighth grade at McKinney Country School in rural Jasper County. After his schooling, Dick worked on the family farm. On August 18, 1937 he was joined in marriage with Doris Carnahan. To this union two children were born: Janice and Nancy. Dick and Doris farmed in rural Killduff until 2002. After selling the farm due to failing health, they moved to Waukee, Iowa and later to Adel. Dick enjoyed raising, showing, and judging Angus Cattle. He was active in the Iowa Angus Association and had served as President. He was also a member of the Iowa Beef Improvement Association and was one of the original people involved with the weighing and grading of Angus cattle to make genetic improvements in the breed. Dick often said that his work and his hobby were the same thing - raising Angus cattle. Dick was also very proud of an award he received for soil conservation. Additional activities include being a Farm Bureau member and serving as a 4-H Club leader for many years. Dick enjoyed visiting with neighbors and was successful in selling seed corn and beans. He also enjoyed fishing at his farm ponds and hunting mushrooms. Dick especially loved attending his children and grandchildren's activities, such as helping them prepare to show cattle and watching their various sports events. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and one grandson.
