They lived there in a shanty and he fished there for a living. He enlisted August 1, 1861 in Peru, Illinois, USA for the Civil War with Co. A 44 Reg't. Ill. Inf. Diebold Adolph Heimburger came to America with his parents in 1856 and they settled at Cedar Point, Huron Co., Ohio, USA. They lived there in a shanty and he fished there for a living. He enlisted August 1, 1861 in Peru, Illinois, USA for the Civil War with Co. A 44 Reg't. Ill. Inf. On September 13, 1861 he was mustered in at Chicago, Illinois to Capt. Zelle's Co. North Wester Rifle Reg't, U.S. Vols., was appointed Corporal November 20, 1862, was wounded in action June 27, 1864 at Kennesaw, Georgia under General Sherman, and honorably discharged September 14, 1864. About two years after his marriage to Eva Louise (Louisa) Schleich on Aug 08 1867, they moved from Cedar Point to the J. W. Starr farm located about three miles south of Huron, Erie Co, Ohio in Huron Township on Mud Brook Rd - Road 13. The farm consisted of 87 acres which was on both sides of the road. They lived in a log house until in 1889 when Eva Louise's father (Louis Schleich) with the help of their son Fred and neighbors built a new house in front of their log house. The house is still standing, in very good repair, occupied and I had a recent tour of the house which thrilled me to view what my grandparents had built so many years ago. Diebold and Eva Louise (Louisa) had five children: Amelia Elizabeth, Frederick Wilhelm, Clara Christina, Eva Louise, and Bertha Josephine. Bertha died in infancy. Note: Amelia Elizabeth Heimburger was known to be the first white person born on Cedar Point which is not exactly where the amusement park is located. Also, her sister, Clara Christina was my grandmother.
