Description	:	Mr. Diedrich Wickenkamp, sen., was born Feb. 18, 1850 in Enkesen, Westfalen, Germany, where he spent the days of his childhood and youth. Read More	Mr. Diedrich Wickenkamp, sen., was born Feb. 18, 1850 in Enkesen, Westfalen, Germany, where he spent the days of his childhood and youth. He grew up under the loving care of christian parents. Baptised in infancy he was confirmed at the Evangelical church in Neuengeseke, Westfalen, at the age of 14, April 10, 1864. On the 1st of Sept. 1886 he and his family arrived in America, accompanied by the late Mr. H. Kemper, who was then returning from a first visit to the old country. After their arrival the departed bought a farm near the West Blue, where he remained and lived for 33 years and five months. He was a lively man, always active, and in spite of the frailties of his age, wished to help his son on the farm wherever he could. On the 19th day of June, 1873, he married Miss Maria Lusse of Ostoonnen, Westfalen. HIs wife has been a faithful christain help-meet to him and a loving mother to her children. She was called to her reward on July 5, 1920. Four children were born to them, three sons and one daughter. Two sons preceded the parents in death: Frederick, at the age of about two years, and Henry about eight years old. Mr. Diedrich Wickenkamp leaves to mourn one son, Mr. Diedrich F. Wickenkamp of Crete, Nebr., and Mrs. Wm. Fette, Crete, Nebr., with their families. There are also two brothers surviving hiim, Mr. Andreas W. Wickenkamp of Casper Wyoming, and Mr. Henry Wickenkamp of Crete, Nebr., and one sister, Mrs. Florentine Nies of Lippstadt, Germany. His departure is also mourned by eleven grandchildren and many other relatives. His age was 71 years, 10 moths, and 16 days. Though he had suffered from asthma for several years he finally passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 3, 1922 at 7:30 p.m. A great number of friends and neighbors attended the funeral services at the house and at the church. The services were beautified by the male choir of the congregation. The words of our Savior, which the departed received as his special memory verse on his day of confirmation: "I am the good shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me," (John 10, 14) served the Rev. G. H. Krueger as a text for his funeral sermon. Mr. Wickenkamp was one of the early members of Evangelical Friends church, always taking great interest in its welfare. He served on the board of trustees for about five years. His memory will ever be cherished among us. He was laid to rest at West Blue cemetery. May he rest in peace.
