Description	:	OAKBORO Mr. Dillon Efird Whitley 78, of 14170 McLester Road, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral is 11 AM Friday, August 24, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, with Reverend Stan Leas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. Mr. Whitley was a native of Oakboro in Stanly County, NC, born July 11, 1923 to the late Hettie Maybelle Efird Whitley and the late Joseph Elon Whitley. He was a retired postmaster from the Oakboro Post Office, and had served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. Mr. Whitley was an active member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, and was a past Church Council and Choir member. He was an active member of Masonic Lodge #348, the Albemarle Stanly County DAV, the National Association of Post Masters of the United States, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 2316. Mr. Whitley is survived by his wife, Vesta Morgan Whitley of Oakboro, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Myra Whitley of Albemarle, and Mark and Pam Whitley of Oakboro, NC; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Don Underwood of Albemarle; as well as seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Whitley Harwood, and a brother, Gerald Edwin Whitley. Memorials may be made to St. Martin Lutheran Church, 16592 St. Martin Road, Albemarle, NC. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Whitley family.
