Surry County NC Coroner Dr. Carl T. Thomas ruled the death was a suicide. King, wounded at his home died at 9:45am, a few hours later, in Northern Surry Hospital at Mount Airy, N.C. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Hilmer Wray of Ararat; three grandchildren: a sister, Mrs. Ella Pearson of Washington, DC; a brother, Sam King of Ararat; a half brother, Mahlon Christian of Richmond, Va.; and two half sisters Mrs. J. G. Greenwood and Mrs. J.J. Shackleford, both of Mount Airy.
