Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before services. The Surls Funeral Home is assisting the family. Dixie was born on October 13, 1929 in Mason City, Iowa to Arthur and Frances Scheef. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1947. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Mason City and Iowa Falls. She married Walter “Wally” Krause March 16, 1955 and moved to a farm in Alden. To this union a son was born, Steven William Krause. Dixie was a housewife and helped on the farm for several years and then went to work for the Alden Public School Library. She later transferred to Alden Community School as a library associate. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran Ladies Aid, American Legion and the Alden Study Club. She also sang in the church choir for many years. She is survived by her son Steven (Marcia) Krause of Ames, two step-grandchildren Eric (Kathy) Schmidt of Des Moines and Adam Schmidt of Golden, Colorado, two sisters-in-law Marjorie Krause of Iowa Falls and Kay Krause of Seward, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister.
