Hudson, 90, of Mason City, died Monday (December 16, 2013) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (December 20, 2013) at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Pastor Steve Hansen officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday evening (December 19, 2013) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to Dixie's service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left in Dixie's name to the Humane Society of North Iowa or the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank. Dixie L. St. Peter was born on April 5, 1923 in Mason City, the daughter of Frank and Josephine A. (Sorenson) St. Peter. She attended and graduated from Mason City High School amongst the class of 1941. Having been a lifelong resident of Mason City, Dixie met Ernie Hudson at a young age. Throughout the years they became good friends and would exchange letters while Ernie was serving in the Marine Corps during World War II. Upon Ernie's return from the war they were reunited and soon planned to exchange vows. On May 31, 1946 Dixie and Ernie were united in marriage in Mason City; they would be blessed with 67 years of marriage together and four children. In Dixie's early years she worked as a secretary for Dr. Messer in his dental office. As she an Ernie began to raise their family, Dixie began waitressing at local restaurants including the Elks Lodge and the Coffee Cup, both in Mason City. Dixie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished the times spent with her family and was known for her patience and understanding. Even throughout the tough times Dixie always had a smile on her face and was willing to do anything for her friends or family. As a couple, Ernie and Dixie loved dancing, golfing, and attending and hosting the neighborhood card club. In later years she enjoyed playing the piano, going to area rummage sales and was an accomplished artist, always working on her next painting. Dixie had a love of animals that followed her throughout her entire life. She loved all animals but was particularly fond of her cats. Those grateful in sharing in her life are her husband, Ernie; children, Dennis (Vickie) Hudson, Winona, Minn., Penny (Steve) Loers, Clear Lake, Candace Putzstuck (John Fox), Forest City, and Kurt (Laurie) Hudson, Indianola; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Donna (Lee) Knutson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dixie is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lloyd, Lyle, Capitola, and Twila; and her grandson, Michael Hudson.
