Born March 11, 1935 in Whitacre, VA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin F. and Emma Armentrout Spitzer. She graduated from the Shenandoah Conservatory College of Music and was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. Born March 11, 1935 in Whitacre, VA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin F. and Emma Armentrout Spitzer. She graduated from the Shenandoah Conservatory College of Music and was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. She was active in a number of clubs including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #632 Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Post #53 Ladies Auxiliary of Front Royal, and was a Rockingham Memorial Hospital Hospice volunteer. For over 25 years she was the co-owner and operator of Werner Market Inc. in Harrisonburg and the Western Union Agency. She also had worked in retail. She is survived by her husband, James F. Werner whom she married November 27, 1958; three sons, Jeff Werner and Larry Werner, both of McGaheysville, VA and John Werner, Redondo Beach, CA; five brothers, William Spitzer and Robert Spitzer, both of Berkeley Springs, Sanford Spitzer, Pennsville, NJ, Max Spitzer, Mathias, and Danny Spitzer, Martinsburg; two sisters, Mary Cushwa and Patty Kief, both of Martinsburg; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Harrisonburg Chapel of Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry D. Butler officiating. Burial was at Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Veterans Care Center, 4550 Shenandoah Ave. NW, Roanoke, VA 24017.
