Description	:	On April 3, 2021, another gaping hole was left in the Gastineau family when Dixie Lee Gastineau, 84, of Lafayette, left this world with her family by her side. Read More	On April 3, 2021, another gaping hole was left in the Gastineau family when Dixie Lee Gastineau, 84, of Lafayette, left this world with her family by her side. She was a resident of St. Mary's Healthcare. Dixie was born on May 27, 1936 in Francesville, IN to the late August T. and Alice Rose (Jones) Moncel. On March 1, 1953, she married the love of her life, Clarence Edwin Gastineau, in Francesville. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2020. Now they will be together again to continue their 67 years of loving marriage. A huge, unconditional, and unfaltering love for her large family was what she will be most remembered for. She sent Clarence off to work with a kiss and had dinner ready for the family when he returned. The two lovebirds often left love notes for each other. She was always so proud of all the kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews. One of her biggest joys was holding and "loving on" all the little ones. She was often in attendance at their sporting and school events. The grandkids knew there would always be candy in the candy jar. She enjoyed reading books and her morning cup of coffee. Dixie was a wonderful homemaker who also became a school "Lunch Lady" after the youngest entered school. She was a great cook and will also be remembered for her potato salad, pink jello salad, Sloppy Joes, Braunschweiger sandwiches, pickles, Whoopie Pies, caramels, black raspberry jelly and hand-decorated birthday cakes. She loved to sew and made kids' clothes, many robes, dozens of Barbie clothes (how does anyone sew such small things?), clever Halloween costumes and poodle skirts. Dixie was considered the queen of all things hummingbird. She loved to feed and watch them and collect anything with a hummingbird on it. She enjoyed a good game of Rummy, her Bunco Club, gardening and preserving the bounty, hosting weenie roasts and pitch-ins, "feeshin" with the family, and letting the grands do her hair and nails. She loved the color red. Content in her big, sweet heart with family and simple things, Dixie was a happy and sad crier, as many are now. She is survived by six children; one brother; one sister; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, Dixie is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marjean Tiede and Mona Lou Herr. Visitation will be held from 12:30-2:30 PM on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 PM with Tom Covington officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. A Celebration of Life for Dixie and Clarence will be held at The Blessing Barn at 5350 S. 900 E., Lafayette, 47905 after leaving the cemetery.
