A Memorial Mass for will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf at a later date. Mrs. Kunkel donated her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program and burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Soebbing was born on June 27, 1923 in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Henry A. and Minnie (Hirner) Soebbing. She was united in marriage to Wilbert Kunkel on September 7, 1946 in Quincy, Ill. Wilbert preceded her in death on December 26, 1972. Dolores had worked for many years for the Bettendorf School District in the school kitchens and later in the rectory at Our Lady of Lourdes. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Daughters of Isabella, Mt. Carmel Circle, and the Bettendorf VFW Auxiliary. Dolores was very generous with her time and talents. She lived by the mantra that if you were bored, it was your own fault. She enjoyed volunteer work especially at Vander Veer Botanical Park and was a dedicated blood donor. She also enjoyed traveling the country to see her family, golfing, baking, walking, and playing cards. Mrs. Kunkel is survived by her children and their spouses: Diane and Bill Alford, Buckeye, Ariz., Sandra and Dan Manna, Geneseo, Kenneth and Sharon Kunkel, Mesa, Ariz., and Steven and Susan Kunkel, Gig Harbor, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Kunkel, Carmen Kunkel, Rosella and Bob Hartwig, Esther and Jim Nusbaum, and Marilyn and Al Spafford; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Elizabeth, Henry, Arthur, Hubert, and Richard. May they rest in peace.
