She passed to her heavenly home Sunday, August 26 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living Center saying in her own words, “I’m happy.” Dolores was born May 20, 1924 to Lawrence Xavior and Mary Winifred (Streb) Mottet in a farmhouse near Riverside, Iowa. Read More	Dolores May Mottet Brown of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa lived a faithful and productive life for 94 years. She passed to her heavenly home Sunday, August 26 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living Center saying in her own words, “I’m happy.” Dolores was born May 20, 1924 to Lawrence Xavior and Mary Winifred (Streb) Mottet in a farmhouse near Riverside, Iowa. The family also lived in West Chester and Grace Hill, Iowa. Dolores met her future husband (Lloyd Brown, 1927-1991) while walking around the square in Washington, Iowa with her siblings on a Saturday evening in the 1940’s. They were married on January 3, 1946 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Lloyd left for service in the Army later that month. After basic training he was stationed in New Jersey where Dolores joined him. At the end of his enlistment the couple returned to the Brown family farm in Henry County, Iowa expecting the first of their six children. Dolores and Lloyd lived, farmed, and raised their family on this same family farm for a total of sixty-three years. They moved to Mt. Pleasant to live “in town” for a few years while Lloyd worked as a pressman at The Mt. Pleasant News and Dolores worked at Panther Rexall Drug Store. Missing their “Century Farm” the couple returned to country life where Dolores remained after Lloyd’s death until moving to a small house just down the street from her beloved church. Dolores and Lloyd were members of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where they were involved in numerous activities and maintained many friendships. Dolores was active in the Daughters of Isabella and The Altar and Rosary Society. She especially enjoyed helping with the annual rummage sale and making pies and Jell-O cups and serving in the kitchen or tent for Old Threshers. Although she never considered herself creative, she was talented and innovative in so many ways. She was an expert furniture restorer, upholsterer, and chair caner. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing everything from coats to doll clothes and creating many quilts which are cherished by her family. She was an excellent cook and baker and was lauded for her cinnamon rolls, cookies, and pies. She was an avid gardener and delighted in new blooms as well as vegetables. She canned and froze the enormously productive results of her labor. Because Dolores and Lloyd both left school before graduating, they made education a priority for the family. They lead by example, finishing their GED’s in 1973. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her six children and their spouses—Michael (Donna) of North Liberty, Iowa; David (Elaine) of Mt. Pleasant; Marvin (Joan) of Mt. Pleasant, Ann (Rich) MacDonald of Winona, Minnesota; Mary (Chris) Corby of Nashville, Tennessee; and Tracy (Sherilyn) of Union City, Tennessee. She loved visiting with and is survived by her 17 grandchildren and their spouses and her 22 great-grandchildren, always welcoming them with her renowned home-made cookies fresh out of the oven or fresh out of the freezer. Dolores is survived by a sister-in-law, Carol Mottet of Brighton, Iowa and a brother-in-law, Hank Godwin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, and her seven siblings—Francis, Helen, Bernard, Catherine, Richard, Jeneta, and Duane. A visitation will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Monday, September 3 from 5 to 7 pm beginning with the recitation of The Rosary at 5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 4 at10:30 am. Memorials can be directed to Mt. Pleasant Community Library or The St. Alphonsus music program.
