State Trooper J.R. Haga said that Albert Lee Malcolm, 15, also of McDowell, was helping Mr. Armstrong to chase cattle in a field behind the Floyd Hatcher residence, about two miles north of McDowell. Haga said the Malcolm youth told him he jumped off the tractor shortly before it overturned. Dr. T.E. Billingsley said he arrived after the tractor had been moved from the victim but that death was instantaneous, probably from a broken neck. Mr. Armstrong was a farmer and rural mail carrier between McDowell and West Virginia. A native of Highland County, he was born July 19, 1908, a son of the late Jacob H. and Bertie Siple Armstrong. He is survived by his widow, the former Leta Mae Simmons; four brothers, Joe Arch and Fred C. Armstrong, both of Deerfield; Dennis B. Armstrong, Covington; and E. Wallace Armstrong of Lansdale, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Wednesday, July 27 at 3:30 p.m. at McKendree Cemetery, near McDowell, with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. May 5, 1933 While at work Monday afternoon at the State Rock Crusher on Bull Pasture Mountain, Mr. Don Armstrong had the misfortune of getting his left hand caught in the machinery, crushing it very badly, and he was at once brought to the office of Dr. C.B. Fox for medical attention, and upon examination was found necessary to remove three fingers. Miss Annie Gillespie, R.N. assisted with the operation.
