Joester, a prominent Dyersville businessman, departed this life at the Dyersville Community Hospital, Dyersville, Iowa, and 12:45 pm Sunday, July 16, 1972. He was 54 years old. Donald Joester was born on a farm Northwest of Dyersville, Iowa, on November 29, 1917, the son of Donald and Minnie Krapfl Joester. He married Kathleen Tegeler at Dyersville on July 6, 1946. He was employed by Nesler-Goedken and the Tauke Implement Co. He was co-owner and operator of Don and Bob's Tire Service in Dyersville since 1960. Don was a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post 137, the Dyersville Volunteer Fire Department, the Dyersville Commercial Club and the Sportsman Club, and served in World War II from 1942-46, spending two years in India. Surviving are his widow, the former Kathleen Tegeler; two sons, Pat Joester of Dubuque and Paul, at home; and three daughters, Pamela, Peggy and Phyllis, all at home. The other survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Joester of Dyersville, and one sister, Miss Jane Joester, also of Dyersville. The Kramer Funeral Home at Dyersville had charge of the funeral arrangements. The funeral mass was celebrated in St. Francis Xavier Basilica on Wednesday morning, July 19, by Father David Wheeler, the pastor. The American Legion and the Dyersville Firemen were in attendance at the services in a body. Interment was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery at Dyersville. The casketbearers were: Tom Lammers, Myron Hittenmiller, Al Bruening, Clarence Knipper, Fritz Nebel and Jake Nebel. Honorary escorts (Firemen) were: Howard Konzen, Herb Link, Lawrence Bildstein, Herb Huberty, Pete Boge, Fritz Scherbring, Jim Meyer and Roy Frericks. The Dyersville American Legion Post conducted full military rites under the command of Robert Platz, the Post Commander, and Leo Eike, Ed Marold, Doc Lake, Al White, Ambrose Tauke, John Kirsch, Don VonLehmden, Ed Domayer, Bob Fitzgerald, Paul Lammers and Gene Evers. Special services were held in the funeral home by the Firemen at 7:30 pm Tuesday evening and by the American Legion at 8:00 pm. The Parish Scripture Service was held at 8:30 pm, also on Tuesday. -------------------------------------------------- Donald Joester The following names were unintentionally omitted from the obituary notice in last week's Commercial of Donald C. Joester. Dyersville Firemen in attendance at the funeral on Wednesday, July 19, included Herb Platz, Don Lakeman, Bob Fitzgerald, Pat Scherrmann and Tony Wagner. Legionnaires attending were Omer Koelker, Jim Wessels, Lawrence Hargrafen, Don Wessels, Hubert Weyer and Walt Rettig of Dubuque. Donald Joester served as Commander of the American Legion Post 137 during the years 1953 and 1954, and at the time of his death he was an officer of the house committee. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from out of town included: Mrs. Germaine Barnd of Lansing, Michigan; Messrs and Mesdames Charles Gerken of Phoenix, Arizona, Pat Joester, Robert Wirzbach, Bob Strub, Jack O'Neil, Chuck Wickmann, Al Kerper, Mr. Walt Rettig, Mrs. Bob Tegeler, Elmer Krapfl, Miss Olivia Tegeler, all of Dubuque; Dan Fangman, Mr. and Mrs. Luvern Mahoney, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fangman, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bretz of Winthrop, Leo Gerken of Independence, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Offerman of Lamont, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burger and Mrs. Rose Joester of Worthington, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Krapfl of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Clete Tauke of Garnavillo, Mrs. Bernice Carter of Epworth, Pete Tegeler and Mrs. Roy Berg of Farley, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Maiers of Holy Cross, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Tegeler of Manchester and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Willenborg of Petersburg.
