Description	:	DONALD VANDYKE Donald lived 11 months and three days. He left us on Feb. 14, only a little while before his first birthday, which would have been on March 11. He was the only child of Martha and Leland VanDyke, and was born in his grandparent's home where he died. Though his life was so brief, it was a happy one, both for him and for those who loved him. Read More	DONALD VANDYKE Donald lived 11 months and three days. He left us on Feb. 14, only a little while before his first birthday, which would have been on March 11. He was the only child of Martha and Leland VanDyke, and was born in his grandparent's home where he died. Though his life was so brief, it was a happy one, both for him and for those who loved him. He gave affection as freely as he received it, making himself a joy and pride in his little world. Sorrow that his life could not be longer, is mixed with gladness that he lived this one year so happily with us. Interment was on Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Dale cemetery. A short service, conducted by Rev. William McKimmy was held at the grave. ELEGY He is through with fun and play; Put his little toys away, Wooden duck, and dog, and ball . . . He is sleeping—that is all. And his playthings we shall keep Safe and holy, hushed in sleep. But we cannot put away Those first words he learned to say. There's no shelf on which to place All the beauty of his face His new laughter, and his smile— Hide them in the afterwhile? There is nothing to regret, And we never need forget. Though our eyes grow faint and dim, They will still be seeing him. Though our ears be weak and slow, They'll be hearing him, I know. And though Death his body harms, We still hold him in our arms. "For a too brief hour we knew Happiness enshrined in you. Though we cannot understand Why God grasped your tiny hand; We can make our numb lips say; 'It was best to be this way!"
